This beautiful â™64 GTO convertible, the first of the breed, one of only 6,664 cars, with a ton of options and past AACA show winnings, has a paperwork collection the likes of which we rarely see here! We love to obsess over paperwork, so this car ranks highly with us! Start with the ORIGINAL build sheet from the Pontiac, MI plantâ'those are nearly impossible to find, and this oneâ™s mint! The original Protect-O-Plate generated at the plant follows the car along, as well. From there you can prove youâ™re looking at the ORIGINAL drivetrain. As the car was being completed, the car shipping record (a virtual mirror of the window sticker) was generated, and the dealer copy is here. Ten days after its birth it was sold new at Herlong Implement and Motor Company in Johnston, SC. You donâ™t normally find cars and farm equipment in the same title, but Herlong dealt in Pontiacs, Ramblers, GMC trucksâ and Allis-Chalmers tractors! Take that, modern all-in-one dealers! Clifford Bedelle Boatwright traded his â™60 Corvair and $2975 for the brand new machine, according to the ORIGINAL bill of sale. He financed $3000 through Ridge Banking Co., paying a $1 fee for the filing. He must have used the last $24 for gas money! We have a photocopy of his original title, the original ownerâ™s and warranty manuals and an original brochure. Thatâ™s documented! For cosmetics youâ™re looking at code W Nocturne Blue paint with an Ivory top, whitewall tires and a code 215 Dark Blue Morrokide interior. Racy it isnâ™t but beautiful it is. Clifford relinquished his well-cared-for and rust free but aged car in 1994 with a mere 59,200 miles on the odometer. The next owner commissioned a full frame-off job and sent out the engine and transmission for rebuilding. The original 389 got the works, with a .030 overbore, a .010/.010 cut on the crank, all new internals and more. The original transmission went through the same treatment and shifts as new. With such a solid platform and all original components the restoration was an easy one! After completion, the car hit both the road and the show circuit. It won an AACA senior division National First, and has won at nearly every level since. There are approximately 6500 miles on the odometer since its rebirth and it has aged gracefully into what is known as a â concours driver.â That doesnâ™t mean itâ™s in poor shape, thoughâ'it was one of only ten vehicles chosen for the 100th anniversary review of significant GM products at last yearâ™s Amelia Island Concours! All original panels and trim are on the exterior of the glossy, flat body. T3 bulbs are up front in the original headlight bezels next to the original grille. Clifford kept the car indoors when he wasnâ™t driving it, so many problems with old cars didnâ™t happen with this car! New emblems, clean lenses and the original wheels with the restored original hubcaps look fantastic. The tires are Goodyear F70x14 units. Theyâ™re a little wider than stock, and the redlines look great on ANY Goat! The glass is nice and clear and the car looks fantastic from any angle. The interior is as nice as it is loaded. Comfy buckets, the original gauges and console, fully functional power windows, power steering, the original wood wheel and more are in excellent condition. An excellent dash, new carpet and clean door panels make this a nice place to spend miles. Underneath youâ™ll find clean panels, nice detailing and a new Gardner exhaust system. Numbers matching, clean and well sortedâ'what else do you want from a chassis? The storyâ™s the same in the trunk, with a proper spare, the correct jack, mat and tire cover. All that and thereâ™s plenty of room for your gear. Open the hood and check out the detailed engine bay full of hard-to-find parts. The power steering pump, the accessory brackets and the pulleys are all â™64-only pieces which can bring down an otherwise nice restorationâ'again, this low mileage, untouched car is correct. Proper chrome pieces from the air cleaner to the valve covers add sparkle while the inner fenders are uniformly satin black. Rebuilt brakes, clean fluids, Packard wires and more look the part and do what they should. From its incredible option list, to its amazing collection of documentation, to its show-winning history, this is a great investment grade GTO. With its miles since completion itâ™s an excellent driver with great road manners, and will spin heads at every GTO event from coast to coast. It doesnâ™t get any better than this one!
